Heating, plumbing, ventilation and air conditioning specialists, P.Chester & Son (Bedford) Ltd, has added 12 new Toyota PROACE vans to its fleet, the vehicles were acquired from Steven Eagell Toyota in Bromham.
The upgrade is part of continued investment and commitment to customers and employees, by the Bedford based firm. The company was founded by the late Peter Chester and his wife Eileen in 1953, It went on to become a Limited Company in 1975 with family members still very active to the present day.
Spencer Chester, a son of Peter and Eileen, is the current Managing Director. Spencer said: "Over the years, we have had a number of different vehicle makes, but one of the most important aspects for us as a Company and for our clients is reliability – both in terms of the products we supply and the service we provide."
He added: "We have many and varied clients, domestic home owners, local councils, hospitals schools, care homes and motorsport teams, which take us to various parts of the country and locally covering Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire."
"Reliability is the key to customers, as we need to get to them on time, safely, with all the equipment that is needed to get the job done.
"Due consideration to the environment, fuel economy and maintenance costs are a priority for us, which are further reasons, the company decided to invest in brand new Toyota vans."
"In making our choice, we considered the cost of operating the old existing fleet, with rising garage costs for repairs and loss of revenue, with vans off the road. The costs were evaluated and it was decided that the costs would be similar to leasing with Toyota. We were familiar with Toyota’s reputation for quality eco-friendly products, and have always had a relationship with the dealership in Bromham."
"Having approached Toyota, we were given a PROACE to trial, our Engineers tried the van, and the general feedback was very positive. The company consulted all employees regarding the step to lease the new vans, and all agreed that the safety features were excellent.
"The safety features included parking sensors, hands free phone operation, security, air conditioning and cabin comfort, as well as the necessary technology Satellite Navigation. All of which is available with the PROACE."
Spencer also commented, by saying "compared with other makes of vans we were considering, the build quality was impressive with a 5-year manufacturer’s warranty. The build quality and warranty will allow us to concentrate on our business, providing that extra security and peace of mind. As a company, we felt it would improve efficiency and productivity, while giving all a sense of pride within the company."
Steven Eagell, founder and managing director of Steven Eagell Toyota, visited P.Chester & Son to thank the company for selecting Toyota and commented:
"Steven Eagell is a family-run business, we also know and understand the importance of quality customer care. We never take any business for granted and are delighted, to help supply these new vehicles.
"I would like to wish Spencer and everybody at P Chester & Son, continued success with the business and once again thank Them for selecting the PROACE. We look forward to our continued lasting relationship with P.Chester & Son."
Member of Parliament for North East Bedfordshire, Rt Hon Alistair Burt, added "I am delighted to see these two family run businesses thriving and providing great opportunities locally. We are all more conscious of the need to 'shop locally' and I am pleased to see this happening at all ends of the scale. I wish both businesses continued success for the future."
Spencer and the team are very keen to attract and develop young, local aspiring engineers, either by apprenticeship or training.
"We need to encourage, train and pass on our experience to the new generation.
"We pride ourselves on our apprentices and trainees and the quality, knowledge and confidence, they achieve."
"We have been trading now for over 60 years, a lot has changed since my parents started the company, but hopefully looking to the future, young and old alike we will gain more experience, confidence, trust, as well as continued foresight for the company to go from strength to strength.
I would like to pass on my thanks to Andy Holt, David Brown, Steve Madigan, Yanis Kapitanis, Dama James and all employees at P.Chester & Son, Toyota and Steven Eagell, for making this exciting change to our business a reality."
